Absolutely Fabulous! What better way to celebrate Halloween than with #13 in the Miss Fortune Mystery Series. I love it! This series is tied with Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich for my favorite cozy mystery series. Both are laugh out loud funny, have wonderful characters, a mystery to solve and are just plain fantastic, fun entertainment. Fortune Redding has decided to make Sinful, LA her home after her retirement from the CIA as their ace sniper. She is trying to fit in with small town life and, along with Ida Belle and Gertie, is volunteering for the annual Halloween Festival. The elaborate maze made of hay bales has some really creepy scenes and Fortune is playing the Executioner, a very fitting part if you ask me, complete with fake body and removable head. Well, you know with that set up that something bad is sure to happen and Jana Deleon does not disappoint. Of course, The resident witch od Sinful, Celia Arceneaux, is using the tragedy to further her "Get Rid of Fortune Campaign" by claiming that Fortune's boyfriend, Deputy Carter Lablanc, can't be impartial and calling in the State Police to take over the Case of the Headless Body. Never fear, Swamp Team 3 is on their first official case and they always catch the baddie.

Swamp Spook by Jana Deleon is another laugh-out-loud trip to Sinful, Louisiana. It's Halloween in Sinful and Fortune has been cast as the executioner in the horror maze at the week long festival. 2020 bk 101: It is Halloween time - and in her new role as permanent citizen of Sinful, Fortune agrees to help with the Halloween maze as the executioner. All goes well until after break time, when Fortune and friends discover a real head-less corpse on her execution block. This is one of the wiliest mysteries the Swamp Team 3 group solves as it moves from adultery to the butlerdidit to high school hijinks to family abuse issues. All with the constant problem of Celia.... A fun read.

I eagerly awaited this book's release; the "Miss Fortune" series is some of the most fun I've had with books in a long while. In this case, the timing for a fun Halloween tale couldn't be better. In this book, Fortune has her PI license and is settling in as well as can be expected in Sinful. Needless to say, Swamp Team 3 is on the case immediately. Deputy Carter Leblanc, for a change, is okay with the trio getting involved, because the state police and town nemesis Celia Arceneaux are trying to prove Carter incompetent for the job and he needs help to clear his own name. The laughs are a mile a minute as Gertie, Ida Belle, and Fortune try to find out "whodunnit" ... which I figured out well before the reveal. Still, the revelation of the "why" was a huge surprise and gave a great deal more insight to the character's motivations in other areas of the story. As usual, I found myself delighted by the characters in the tiny town. There were new folks to meet, and chuckles to be had. I can't wait until the next one is out.

Halloween in Sinful. I can't imagine a more perfect environment for the adventures of Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie. And Jana doesn't disappoint. Twists and laughter while solving a complex murder. I absolutely love this series and am delighted with this 13th book.

Swamp Team 3 in action. The latest “Miss Fortune” book is the best ever. The twist and turns of this story will give you whiplash. Just when you think you’ve figured it out...surprise. Swamp Team 3 is in on the action, and hijinks, in that special way only they can. Enjoy the latest, you’ll be glad you did.

Halloween is the holiday and the mystery begins and has plenty of twists. Fortune is now a PI and Ida Belle and Gertie are consultants/ associates. We still have plenty of action and Fortune is asked for help from an unusual source. The romance is there but the story has lots of action so it is a bit subdued. Awesome book and I give it ten stars as it is the Swamp Pack's first official case! Yes, I highly recommend the book!

4 Stars! Swamp Spook is book 13 in A Miss Fortune Mystery series. The series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who up until book 12 was a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders. Once I listened to the first Miss Fortune Mystery series book, I couldn't stop. So far, I have listened to all of the books back to back and I'm not going to stop until there aren't any more. I recommend reading/listening to these books in order since each book builds upon the prior book's story and it makes it much more entertaining and enjoyable to go in order. I'm sure you could still enjoy these books as standalone but it won't be the same. In Swamp Spook, Sinful is having their week-long Halloween celebrations and all of the townspeople help out where they can. Fortune plays a character in the scary maze and in her scene she beheads a (fake) person. During the 30 minute break, someone swaps the fake dead dude with a real one. Of course, Celia gets involved and it is makes for a hilarious scene of realizing the fake dead guy is a real one. I love to see horrible things happen back to her. Her character is a lesson in karma. I hope she really gets shut down once and for all in one of these books, although it would take away a lot of drama so I don't know... Anyway, this twist certainly looks bad for Fortune, especially since she let the town in on her true identity as a CIA agent in the last book and people think she might be dangerous. Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie jump right into investigation mode to try to solve the murder and a few other crimes along the way. If you like books with a big dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count. The same narrator reads for the whole series. She did great for the first 11 books, but the past two have seemed sloppy, almost like she is just rushing through. She is making errors such as incorrect words read and using the wrong character name. That was disappointing. I do like that her voices are consistent from book to book.

Very Good! 📚 Fast paced and funny!! I wish Fortune and Carter’s relationship would develop into something more meaningful. Their relationship is mentioned once or twice in the book. I started this series because it was categorized as a romance. (This is not a romance, and why I gave it four stars.) However, I continue reading every new release because it is really very good!!

So I kinda just jumped into this one immediately after finishing the previous book. (My self-control is really poor, but I ain't complaining.) It's Halloween in Sinful, so you know what that means... sexy Halloween outfits... only for Gertie! I was really relieved that Fortune wore what suited her personality: a hatchet wielding (and fully clothed) executioner! The humor was great and on-point on usual, and possibly even more so, due to it being Fortune's first Halloween at Sinful. As usual, Fortune's skillset is always... questionable, with her admitting: I didn't have an artistic bone in my body, unless you counted making a smiley face on a body target at the gun range. My favorite part of this novel is the change in dynamic between Carter and Fortune's "usual" tension. Instead of objecting to Fortune's "illegal" activities towards solving crimes, this time Carter actually asked for her help (and effectively became the first customer of her PI business, how cute!) and let Swamp Team 3 do their thing. And of course, more developments happened, mainly an explanation for the briefly mentioned "oddity" that occurred between Carter and Walter in the previous novel. It was hilarious to see it addressed here, and I can't wait to see more of it in upcoming novels. Before I end this review, I really have to share this beautiful moment: We looked over and saw her standing there wearing a leopard print G-string leotard over glittery red spandex leggings. The leggings had a bit of built-in padding on the back. "What the heck is that on your rear?" Ida Belle asked. "More rear," Gertie said. "Cool, right? I look like one of those rapper dancers in a rap video." She leaned over and wriggled her butt. I think she was attempting to twerk, but it looked more as though she'd bent over and was having trouble getting back up. Or maybe she was having a seizure."

Okay, I admit to reading this series and the sometimes insane antics of the three main characters - Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie. They solve mysteries together in the little town of Sinful, Louisiana. Fortune is a former CIA agent and Gertie and Ida Belle are two senior citizens who were some kind of spies during the Vietnam War. The little town is crowded with eccentric (to put it mildly) and often dangerous residents. In the beginning of the series, Fortune showed up in Sinful to hide from a furious Middle Eastern bad guy who put out a hit on her. She assumed the identity of a woman who inherited a house in Sinful from her aunt. Ida Belle and Gertie, friends of the deceased aunt, pretty quickly figured out that there was something fishy about this niece. This latest book takes place during Halloween and kicks off with Fortune playing an ax-wielding executioner in the Halloween festival maze, only to discover that that during her break the dummy was replaced with a real body. The trio set out to discover what is going in a manner that more than gives Lucy and Ethel a run for the money. If I'm reading one of these books in bed at night I sometimes have to stifle laughter so as not to wake up my husband. Starting at the beginning of the series helps set the stage for some of the ongoing aspects. If you like the Stephanie Plum books you might like these. One of the recurring characters is a large alligator that likes Gertie's casseroles.
